Programmes For Elderly
Festival Dinners
Invitation to dinners during the Mooncake and Winter Festivals are extended to the elderly from 20 Old Folks Homes in the Klang Valley. On each occasion, the elderly, numbering as many as 400, are transported by buses to posh restaurants. They are treated to good food, given ang pows, and entertained by well-wishers and volunteers.
Annual Holiday
Annually about a hundred elderly from the 20 homes go on a holiday organized and sponsored by the Foundation. Trips to date include sailing on Star Cruise, flying to Penang and bus trips to Cameron Highlands and Melaka.
The Foundation understands the loneliness and plight of the old folks in homes. These trips show to them that there is still love, concern and care and give them something to look forward to.
The Young-At-Heart Programme (YAH)
It is forecast that by 2010, one in nine Malaysians will be above 60 years of age. Retirement is a transition that can cause major life changes and it can be stressful if you are not prepared for it. With this in mind, the Foundation introduced the first YAH Programme for senior citizens 50 years and above.
The curriculum covers topics such as the ABCs of Ageing and the physiological and psychological aspects of Ageing. Creative activities like painting, learning how to play the harmonica, line dancing, qi gong and photography are included.
The Programme was ilaunch in 2006 and held annually.
