Programmes For The Single Mothers

Empowerment Workshop

The increase in the number of single mothers in this country is alarming. They suffer from emotional and financial problems and their children are also affected. The Foundation helps single mothers to cope with their traumatic feelings through empowerment workshops.

This programme started in 1997 and it has served more than a thousand women of all races. It addresses their hurts, pain, anger and unforgiveness objectively and enables them to regain their self-esteem and move on in life. It is therapeutic and based on experiential learning. The facilitators are psychologists.

The women are then placed in support groups according to their locality. We have therefore established support groups in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Ipoh, Penang, and Johor Bahru.

Tele Coaching Helpline (03-7650 8676 / 03-7650 8694)

Sensing the need for single mothers to share their pain and help them in their situation, the tele-coaching helpline was subsequently set up and manned by single mothers for single mothers.

This initiative has prevented a number of suicides and provided support for single parent families.

Legal Helpline (03-7650 8676 / 03-7650 8694)

The Foundation launched the first Legal Helpline for single mothers in March 2007. It is manned by volunteer lawyers. Face to face coaching and legal advise is also conducted. This service has helped single mothers specially from the lower income group.

Family Bonding Workshops

Single mothers often raise the problem of communication with their own children. Family bonding workshops enable single mothers and their children to communicate more effectively as a family.

In these workshops, the mother and child are coached on how they can be the family they want to be – to communicate more openly and honestly, be more spontaneous, have fun and be more supportive of each other.
